Stuart Montague

Classically trained as a traditional Cabinet Maker, Stuart Montague is stimulated by the "challenge of making pieces that many think are Technically impossible". His influences are from a diverse range of sources including the natural environment, classic periods other Designers and Artists plus a range of well designed items in every-day-use such as perfume bottles.
Stuart says "we forget how much our lives revolve around furniture. My designs reflect functional friendliness and an attraction for people to "touch"them. Whenever my furniture is displayed, people love to run their hand along the surfaces to enjoy the shapes and finish."
As a third generation Cabinet Maker, Stuart has spent most of his life surrounded by all of the great and some of the awful periods of furniture. He undertook a degree in Creative Arts, majoring in Wood Design at the University of Hobart to widen the "scope" of the family business.
Montague Furniture consisting of Stuart, his brother Brad., and a team of makers and polishers, create furniture to supply the Australian Market in "excellence and craftsmanship". In Stuart's words "I think Australians are becoming very design and quality conscience but there is so much "dodgy" boring furniture around and I simply want to widen peoples' opportunities to acquire furniture that they just love living with".
