Course Overview
This course is focused on assisting participants to learn the safe use of the woodworking machines that are available in the Association's workshop. The Jointer, Table Saw, Thicknesser, Band Saw, Trimmer and Bobbin Sander will first be demonstrated by the course leaders. Participants will be taught about safety rules and precautions. Participants will have supervised the use of these machines. They will see a demonstration them take their own work piece through the process. Participants will leave with two useful workshop jigs, a bench hook and a pushstick, of their own creation. Safety means considering your Lungs, Ears, Eyes and Fingers (LEEF). The acronym FEWTEL summarises the usual process used to prepare wood for construction.
F - face - flatten one face
E - edge - joint one edge square to that flattened face
W - width - rip to finish width
T - thickness - other face to uniform thickness.
E - end - square up one end
L - length - cut to finish length
Materials Provided
All wood tools and equipment for the course will be provided.
What To Bring
An apron to cover clothing, dust mask, ear muffs if you have them, drinks and lunch.
Safety
Please wear sturdy footwear, boots or shoes with leather uppers preferred
