Course Overview
Description
Creation of boxes is a central skill for furniture design. Most furniture is made up of specialised boxes (eg. drawers) fitted within other boxes (eg. cabinets casements). This introductory course is also suitable for more experienced woodworkers seeking to creatively explore this aspect of the craft.
This two-day course is designed to introduce participants to the fundamentals of woodworking through the creation of a simple yet elegant mitred wooden box.The project is ideal for beginners as it encompasses a variety of basic woodworking skills, and by the end of the second day, participants will have crafted a useful and decorative item.
Younger Members
This course is suitable for younger members of the association who are aged 16or 17 years old at the time of the course.
Materials Provided
All required tools, jigs and materials will be provided for your use during the course. If you prefer to use your own tools, please bring your own labelled measuring and marking tools, chisels and hand saws.
What To Bring
Tea and coffee are available in the workshop. There is a small fridge in which your lunch and drinks can be stored.
Safety
Please wear sturdy footwear. Closed shoes with leather uppers are required in the workshop. If you have them, please bring your earmuffs, mask and goggles for hearing, lung and eye protection.
